Body pulled from water identified

The body discovered in the waters between Manly and Shelly Beaches this afternoon has been formally identified as missing man Richard Gottschald.

Next of kin have been notified.

The 81-year-old man was last seen about 5pm on Tuesday (14 March 2023), at a home on Reddall Street, Manly.

When he could not be contacted or located, officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

Police at Fairy Bower this afternoon after the man’s body was retrieved from the water.

Earlier today, Emergency services were called to Manly Beach, after reports a body had been located in the water, just before 12.30pm.

Officers from the Marine Area Command attended and retrieved the body from the water.

Following inquiries, the body has been formally identified as being the missing man.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is underway.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Condolences to his loved ones.
