Local powerhouse Elouise Massa, who kickstarted the Northern Beaches Hospital shift to public hands after the death of her child, has just welcomed a new baby.
Baby girl Annie Massa couldn’t wait to be born, arriving a few weeks earlier than expected, but healthy, with her mother, Elouise, and father, Danny, reporting to us they are living in the bliss of the “newborn bubble” after a year and a half of tireless advocacy for de-privatisation.
“It’s been a big whirlwind, but we’re over the moon about the birth of our baby girl, and of course everything at the hospital, it’s been a momentous few months,” Elouise told Manly Observer.
Northern Beaches Hospital was made public just two months ago. It followed the death of Elouise and Danny’s son, Joe, who was incorrectly triaged in 2024, leading to his death and his parents’ outcry. The audit revealed multiple issues with Healthscope at the helm.
Since then, Elouise says there has been improved processes, staff training and an independent paediatric review, making it an “extremely safer hospital.” She also shared that people have already approached her to say they are wearing their NSW Health uniform with pride.
When asked what is on the horizon after such an exhaustive campaign, Elouise said: “I think focusing on Annie and our new journey ahead as a family.”
