Alleged Balgowlah Heights Jeep thief faces court

A young man accused of breaking into a Balgowlah Heights’ family’s home then stealing their Jeep faced Manly Court this morning.

Connor Mauler appeared in Manly Local Court today, 4 September, following charges of an alleged break and enter and stolen vehicle leading to a police pursuit in Manly on 19 August.

The 20-year-old appeared before the court via audio visual link before the matter was adjourned and elected to continue in Sydney Downing District Court on 29 October.

Police were first notified of an alleged stolen Jeep from a home in Adrian Place, Balgowlah Heights, during a break-and-enter at around 2.15 am  early on Monday, 19 August.

The home’s occupants were awakened by the sound of the events and notified police immediately.

The vehicle was spotted by Northern Beaches Police Area Command shortly after travelling north up Belgrave St, Manly. When the car refused to stop for police a pursuit was initiated leading to authorities successfully deploying spikes on Spit Road, Mosman.

The Jeep crashed into a traffic light and three males were seen running from the vehicle. There were no reported injuries.

Mr Mauler was arrested on the scene after attempting to evade on foot and taken to Manly Police Station at 2.35 am.

The King Creek local was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence.

A 14-year-old was later arrested in Pearl Bay, Mosman shortly after and also taken to Manly Police Station.

The teen was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence and passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity.

Mr Mauler was refused and will appear before the District Court on 29 October via audio visual link.
