Scruby confirms for Pittwater by-election

Teal Independent Jacqui Scruby, who narrowly lost to Liberal Rory Amon by just 606 votes in the 2023 State election, has confirmed she will stand in the upcoming Pittwater by-election today.

Rory Amon, a former Northern Beaches Councillor, resigned from parliament last week following his arrest over historical child sex offences. He was charged and released on conditional bail until the matter returns to court in late October.

Ms Scruby, an environmental lawyer and corporate climate change advisor who lives in the electorate, is expected to announce later this morning. The mum of two has worked as an advisor for Federal Teal MPs Sophie Scamps and Zali Steggall.

She pulled off an historic 22% swing in the Pittwater electorate last March.

A notification of a press conference for her announcement was issued to media this morning which confirmed her candidacy.

The seat covers the northern end of the Northern Beaches such as Narrabeen, Warriewood, Elanora Heights, Mona Vale, Newport, Avalon, Palm Beach and Scotland Island.

The by-election will be held on Saturday, 19 October.
