Beacon Hill burn update as Oxford Falls Fire officially contained

Fire and Rescue NSW are today managing a planned hazard reduction burn at Govenor Phillip Park at Beacon Hill (the lookout next to Maccas on Warringah Road in Beacon Hill).

This is expected to burn one hectare of bushland around the lookout along Warringah Road and is run by our local firefighter teams.

It is separate, but very near, to the bushfire resulting from a hazard reduction conducted by Rural Fire Service on Saturday.

That fire is now officially contained (as at 4pm today) and there is no change to alert levels which sits at “advice.”

While there have been a few notifications pop up on the Hazards Near Me App today, these have been false alarms caused by people calling Triple Zero.

It is an automated system that is then reviewed by authorities and revised.

To reiterate, the major fire has now been officially listed as CONTAINED.

This significantly lowers the threat of danger.

Senior firefighter, Mathew Mildwater, said he understood there would be nervousness in the community given bushfires in the area following a hazard reduction.

“Fire and Rescue NSW are taking advantage of mild and favourable conditions to undertake the works before forecast rain later in the week,” he said.

”It is a small well contained and heavily resourced burn.”

What’s the latest with the Oxford Falls bushfire?

The bushfire that spread from the original Meatworks Hazard Reduction is listed as being contained and there has been no change in the advice level.

The fire, which burnt in bushland between Cromer Heights, Beacon Hill and Oxford Falls has been contained following a successful backburn this morning along the northern edge of the fire.

Crews assisted by aircraft will continue to work on the fireground to strengthen containment lines.

People in the vicinity may notice small pockets of bushland continue to burn within containment lines over coming days. Firefighters will continue to patrol the fireground and monitor for hotspots. Only report unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

NSW Rurual Fire Service have stated that no further updates will be provided on this fire as it is now contained.
