Harbord PS ‘UPLIFT’ Fete
Harbord Public School’s UPLIFT Fete is setting new standards for inclusion.
While incredibly excited about the ferris wheel, carnival rides, markets and entertainment, there’s one aspect of the Fete the School is particularly proud of – making made inclusion a priority.
Through partnerships with Integrative OT and Megability, theye’ve created a dedicated Zen Zone, a quieter, supportive space designed to help children who may find the noise, crowds and sensory demands of a large community event overwhelming.
For neurodivergent children, particularly those who experience sensory sensitivities or difficulties with emotional regulation, something as simple as attending a school fete can be incredibly challenging. Having somewhere to retreat, regulate and recharge can make the difference between a family being able to participate or having to leave altogether.
In addition to they’ve also introduced a Low-Scare Hour in our Haunted House from 1–2pm, offering a gentler, lower-sensory experience for children who might otherwise miss out on the fun.
These might seem like small initiatives, but for the families who need them, they can make an enormous difference.
Of course, there’s also plenty of traditional excitement, at Harbord PS UPLIFT Fete.
