DYRSL: Birds Of Tokyo – Starlights Tour
SOME SONGS COME IN A RUSH, SOME TAKE THEIR SWEET TIME
“We spent ages trying to understand what this song was meant to be – we just couldn’t force it”, adds singer Ian Kenny.
So, there’s a strange symmetry in the anthemic rock track finally falling into place just as a perfect purpose revealed itself. This Sunday The Starlight Foundation – a high-profile charity which offers hope to seriously ill children – launches “Streamas”, a campaign using special online appearances to raise much needed funds for worthy work. “Starlights” has been donated as the soundtrack for “Streamas” campaign and Birds of Tokyo will kick off the campaign with a special YouTube performance.
Alongside a slew of summer concerts across January and February – including lots of new dates announced today (see below for all the details) – Birds Of Tokyo will also do some more hospital visits with Starlight Foundation to keep drawing attention to their good work.
All five Birds Of Tokyo members are now parents to young children which gives The Starlight Foundation’s work personal resonance, therefore, unlike the song itself, the idea of associating “Starlights” with the charity fell into place immediately.
“There’s something beautifully meta about all this”, Adam Spark reflects. “After half a decade of experimentation we ultimately ended up with a song that’s about letting go of your fears and seizing the day so, as things have turned out, we couldn’t have come up with a better soundtrack for The Starlight Foundation if we had tried.”
