ARTISTS RECONNECT THROUGH THEIR EARLY NORTHERN BEACHES EXPERIENCES IN COUNTERPOINT EXHIBITION
This summer, Manly Art Gallery & Museum proudly presents Counterpoint, a compelling exhibition featuring the work of three acclaimed Australian artists – Jude Rae, Ruth Waller and Toni Warburton, who grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Growing up within a few kilometres of each other on the Northern Beaches, Rae, Waller and Warburton share early experiences of place that continue to inform their distinct yet interconnected practices.
Their works – spanning painting and ceramics – are bound together in a rich visual dialogue that explores materiality, perception and the beauty of the everyday.
The Counterpoint exhibition will feature:
- Jude Rae’s still life paintings, distilling the complexities of everyday experience (she recently won the 2025 Wynne Prize)
- Ruth Waller’s paintings, exploring the poetics of shape and space, and
- Toni Warburton’s ceramics, drawing from botanical, geological and architectural structures
The artists share a deep engagement with the physical and formal properties of their chosen materials, paint, clay and the spaces in between.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
DATE: Exhibition officially opens on Friday 05 December, with a series of linked public events and experiences running until Sunday 15 February 2026
LOCATION: Manly Art Gallery & Museum
