Emergency dashboard launches for Northern Beaches

Northern Beaches Council has this week unveiled a new Northern Beaches Emergency Dashboard to provide the community with information before, during and after an emergency or natural disaster.

Its launch is timed to coincide with Get Ready Weekend, a Rural Fire Service initiative to encourage locals to prepare ahead of fire season.

Manly Observer will be adding it as a quick link on the menu of our news app, now available, entirely free, on the Apple and Google Play app stores.

The Emergency Dashboard makes it easier for residents, businesses and community groups to access real-time, locally relevant information including weather warnings, Hazards Near Me incidents, road closures, utility outages and rainfall and lagoon gauges.

The new Emergency Dashboard

The website is divided into three simple sections:

  1. Get Ready – advice on preparing for emergencies and a map of local hazards such as flood and bushfire prone land, coastal erosion areas and the tsunami evacuation zone. (Editor’s note – I found out today I live in a tsunami evacuation zone!)
  2. Response – real time updates on active emergencies and natural disasters, including a detailed map with Hazards Near Me alerts, warnings or incidents, plus weather warnings, road closures, activated evacuation centres, sandbag collection locations, lagoon water levels and utility outages
  3. Recovery – resources to assist residents, and businesses and community groups recover following a disaster event.

The Emergency Dashboard is a one-stop-shop, bringing together local information from all relevant agencies and emergency services.

The project was made possible by The Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF) which is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
