Teen sextortions, boat thefts and an expensive mistake at the pub in this week’s Crime Watch Northern Beaches

Sextortions

Northern Beaches Police have received several reports of attempted extortions around disclosure of sexually explicit material. A 16 year old male from the Northern Beaches lost more than $3000 on 4 October 2024 after a Snapchat demand which was believed to originate overseas.

Detectives are reviewing another matter involving a 15 year old girl that was reported on Wednesday, 9 October 2024.

Another matter also reported on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, involving an even younger person, however, it was understood no money was sent.

On Thursday, 11 October 2024, Northern Beaches received a report of a 57 year old lady having demands to send bitcoin else the scammers would release certain footage.

Arrests on the Beaches

AFFRAY
Brookvale: 10:00pm Saturday 5 October 2024

Northern Beaches Police arrested a 40 year old male from Dee Why after he was causing a disturbance at a fast food outlet on Saturday night. He was intoxicated and had to be taken home to his parents. He will face Court next month for Affray.

Manly: Tuesday 8 October 2024

Northern Beaches Police arrested a 44 year old man from Manly after an altercation with staff at a Manly Licensed premises. The male had been asked to leave the venue by staff and became argumentative. The male struck the staff member several times and police arrested the man. Police viewed CCTV of the incident and the man was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and Failing to Leave a licensed premises when requested. He will appear at Manly Local Court on 20 November 2024.

Brookvale: Wednesday 9 October 2024

Northern Beaches Detectives investigating a street robbery at Brookvale have arrested two of the three young people involved. Police had been notified of a robbery of a 13 year old on Wednesday who had some clothing stolen by three other young people. Northern Beaches Detectives executed a search warrant on a Dee Why home on Thursday seizing some property. Detectives arrested a 19 year old male from the Central Coast on Thursday and charged him with Robbery In Company. He will appear at Manly Local Court on 30 October 2024. A second young person, age 15 from Dee Why was arrested by Detectives on Friday 11 October and is to be charged. Detectives are following up on the third person, a local 16 year old male.

THEFT OF E-BIKES

Northern Beaches Police took several reports of stolen e-bikes over the week. Last week, an electric skateboard was taken from outside a medical practice at North Curl Curl whilst the owner was seeking treatment. On Friday night, an e-bike was stolen from outside a home at Avalon Beach. On Saturday night, an e-bike was stolen from a bike rack at East Esplanade, Manly after the young owner had secured it with a chain. On Sunday night, an e-bike was stolen from outside a licensed venue on North Steyne after it had been secured to a bike rack.

Northern Beaches Police stopped a 46 year old male from Balgowlah around 11pm on Monday 7 October 2024 after he was seen riding an e-bike along North Steyne, Manly without a helmet. He was searched and found to have bolt cutters, a bike chain and a small amount of cannabis in his possession. He will appear at Manly Local Court on 20 November 2024 for possession of a prohibited drug, goods in custody suspected of being stolen and possession of the bolt cutters.

EXPENSIVE NIGHT OUT

Manly: Friday 4 October 2024

Northern Beaches Police had cause to speak with a 18 year old male from inner Sydney who had helped himself to a beer at a Manly Licensed venue. Whilst staff were busy, he poured himself a beer. However he left the tap running, draining the keg of beer. He will face court next month for both the theft and the loss of more than a $1,000 in beer.

SERIOUS ASSAULT
Brookvale: 9:40pm Sunday 6 October 2024

Northern Beaches Police are investigating a serious assault at a fast food outlet on Sunday night. A group of around eight young people were causing trouble when one tried to steal food. The victim, a 30 year old patron intervened and was assaulted by the group. The victim was kicked and had to be hospitalised for concussion. Police are examining the high quality CCTV from the venue. Several witnesses are also assisting police. Two of the young males were wearing shorts, no shirts and aged around 15 – 17 years.

THEFT OF ALCOHOL – REPEAT LOCATION
Collaroy: 3:00am Monday 7 October 2024  

Can you help with information about the break in at a licensed premises on Pittwater Rd, Collaroy during the early hours of Monday morning; the second time in a week. This time, six young people (two females and four males) broke into the licensed premises on Pittwater Road, Collaroy. After one of the girls smashed a window, the group entered and stole various bottles of alcohol and soft drink which they loaded into crates. It is believed some of the group were the same ones from a break and enter the week prior. Several were wearing grey and blue hoodies and at least two were wearing crocs. The CCTV footage is being reviewed by police, along with forensic results.

BOATS
Narrabeen and Bayview: Saturday 5 October 2024

Northern Beaches Police are investigating the theft of a small 8hp outboard motor that had been taken from a tinnie on Narrabeen lagoon. The owner noticed the missing motor and found the padlock had been cut. A few days later, on 7 October 2024, a tinnie and a set of oars belonging to a volunteer group was taken from Bayview.
