Community mourns Alfie

Our deepest love for this little boy lost too soon. This is Alfie.

Alfie tragically died after he was hit by a car in Collaroy on Sunday, 30 July.

This image, provided by his family and with explicit consent from his parents,  is the face of a child we are all grieving over. None more than his parents, Sophie and Will, and his four siblings.

The family, who live in Dural, were enjoying a day in Collaroy to watch a Rugby game when the terrible accident occurred on Anzac Avenue  on Sunday afternoon.

If you would like to ease the burden of this family, we have also been given permission to share the link to a fundraiser their friends have set up to show their love and support.

You can view the fundraiser here.

Friend Effy set up the page to “ease the stress on the Darby family as they process the loss of little Alfie by seeking assistance with the funeral expenses.”

“On Sunday 30 July 2023 the world lost a beacon of light and heaven gained an angel. Five year old Alfie Darby tragically passed away after being hit by a car in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Alfie was the youngest of five children and leaves behind his parents, three brothers and a sister.

“The Darby family are well known members of our school and greater community who are gracious, kind and always welcoming. Their home is always filled with children and there is always an invite for a cup of tea or coffee when you arrive at the door.

“We would like to ease the stress on the Darby family as they process the loss of little Alfie by seeking assistance with the funeral expenses. If you can contribute it would be much appreciated. If you cannot we ask that you share this with your friends and family and keep the Darby family in your prayers.”

A collection of flowers have amassed at a tree near where Alfie was lost on Sunday. This includes a number of letters from members of the Collaroy Rugby Club.

Knowing his family will read this, we express our deepest sorrow for your incredible loss.
