Madama Butterfly – Sydney Opera House
This is Madama Butterfly as you’ve never seen her. Puccini’s ageless love story – girl meets boy, boy marries in haste and lust, then runs off with someone else – is catapulted into the 21st Century under the direction of Graeme Murphy.
Cio Cio San (Sae-Kyung Rim) is the Japanese beauty who captures the attention of American naval officer Pinkerton (Diego Torre), but Opera Australia’s groundbreaking digital technologies often steal the show with ten seven-metre tall LED screens creating shifting and swirling backdrops.
