Universal Themes of Love, Loss & Belonging with Sydney Chamber Music Festival 2023
The Sydney Chamber Music Festival this year presents three music programs on 9th & 10th September 2023 at Manly Art Gallery and Museum under the title Universal Themes.
SCMF Artistic Director Bridget Bolliger has curated these three music programs to tie in with art exhibitions by mother and daughter artists Heather and Kate Dorrough, who explore the female creative lineage, and Indonesian-born artist Jumaadi whose art explores themes of love, loss and belonging.
The festival weekend begins with Sensory Concerts this year embracing music for families with sensory and additional needs, commonly associated with Autism, ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, physical and intellectual disabilities. The music is designed to calm the senses and contains evidence-based sensory-friendly musical elements.
Australia’s pre-eminent string quartet, Goldner String Quartet, an ensemble of international significance, often compared with the best in the world, will perform works by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr, American composer Amy Beach, the first successful American female composer of large-scale art music in a work for flute and string quartet with flautist Bridget Bolliger, and Beethoven’s Quartet in F major, Op.18 No.1
Finally Flute and Guitar Duo, featuring internationally acclaimed soloists, Australian Swiss flautist Bridget Bolliger and Russian Guitarist Vladimir Gorbach unite once again with an unusual plethora of Australian music including one new commission composed by British born composer and music educator Prof. Jim Coyle, alongside a feast of Franz Schubert’s chamber music, finishing with a charming set of Rumanian folk dances by Bela Bartok.
This program also includes cellist Timothy Nankervis from the acclaimed Seraphim Trio and violist Andrew Jezek, former co-principal violist of the renowned Viennese contemporary music ensemble Klanforum Wien.
