Australian Pride in Sport Festival at the Collaroy Tennis Club
On Saturday week, 22 March, Collaroy Tennis Club will be holding a big community open event as part of the inaugural Australian Pride in Sport Festival.
The Festival is a nationwide calendar of events promoting inclusivity, celebrating diversity and encouraging LGBTQ+ participation in sports across Australia. Collaroy Tennis Club is proud to have been chosen to host its own Pride in Sport Festival twilight event on Saturday, March 22 from 4pm. A real carnival atmosphere will prevail at the Club with lots of fun activities for all! The event will also help raise funds for our community partner, Lifeline Northern Beaches.
In fact, attendees can bid to play a set of doubles with Seven Time World Surfing Champion, Layne Beachley, umpired by Founding Member of INXS, Kirk Pengilly, with all funds raised going to Lifeline N.B. The Little Gelato Cart will be selling the best Gelato in Sydney, Bunnings will provide a traditional BBQ plus face painting for kids, and a big raffle will take place – again all income from these activities going directly to Lifeline N.B.
The tennis club was selected to participate after previously holding two successful AO Pride Nights and a wonderful event to celebrate Sydney WorldPride 2023. As with these events, the Club is running this Australian Pride in Sport Festival event in conjunction with event partners, Fusion Pride Northern Beaches and Evolve Tennis Academy.
The event will commence with a musical Acknowledgement of Country performed by Indigenous Artist, Aleta Wassell. Activities during the evening will include organised social tennis, cardio tennis, pickleball, music and a performance by DJ Drag King, Sexy Galexy and more. Dignitaries including Independent Member for Wakehurst, Michael Regan, and former Davis Cup representative and World No. 16, Bob Giltinan OAM, now a Northern Beaches Councillor, Narrabeen Ward, will attend.
To help with catering, the community is being asked to register to attend and let organisers know if they’re bringing friends or family. Entry is FREE.
