Balgowlah man charged with kangaroo mutilation skips court

A Balgowlah Heights man failed to show up to Manly Local Court today, 27 November 2024, after being charged with allegedly running over two kangaroos and later mutilating one in July.

Court was adjourned until early next year, when the accused, Leo Boland, will need to appear to continue his not guilty plea.

The 20-year-old was charged with torture, beat and seriously injure animal, recklessly beat and seriously injure animal, and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

The running over and mutilation charge related to an alleged incident in July between 6 pm and 7 pm at Running Stream, which is about three hours inland of the Northern Beaches.

The charge associated with not disclosing his identity happened on 4 October 2024.

The court will determine whether Mr Boland to wit, chased and ran down two kangaroos causing prolonged suffering to the animal while driving a white 2015 Holden Colorado utility vehicle.

The matter will return to Manly Court on 2 February 2025.
